For two straight days, officials at Indianapolis Motor Speedway closed down practice sessions due to rain, but today, the drivers are back on the track making a mad dash to get their cars prepared for Pole Day tomorrow. All cars are now allowed on the track, and there will be plenty of actions as long as the weather holds out.
Marco Andretti posted the fast lap of the day on Tuesday during the last practice session before today. Andretti turned in a lap of 226.599 mph. Andretti nearly pulled off a huge victory in 2006 as he led the final lap until about 300 yards before the finish when Sam Hornish Jr. stole his first win at IMS.
News-Sentinel columnist Reggie Hayes breaks down the top 10 drivers with a legitimate in his column on News-Sentinel.com. Hayes, Pete DiPrimio and I also give our predictions for the drivers who will take the top spot for the 92nd running of the race.
Scott Dixon just posted the fastest lap of the month, turning in a 226.968 before the caution flag came out for debris on the track. Speeds are up across the board today as four drivers are now faster than 226. Andretti’s 226.7 is right behind Dixon while Tony Kanaan and Ryan Briscoe have also moved into the top 4 spots for the day.
I’ll post an update later today of the day’s fastest times, and I plan to hit the ground running at the track early tomorrow. I’ll update with photos as often as possibe.
