Friday practice

Aside from a few crashes, Friday’s practice sessions were relatively uneventful. I spent most of the day shooting photos of cars on the track from different points along turn 1 for some upcoming stories, but there wasn’t nearly the amount of traffic I expected. I suspect the near full day of practice on Thursday alleviated some of the potential problems on Friday.

Ryan Briscoe crashed his back up car into the Safer barrier in Turn 1. It happened right next to me, and it was loud. I got a picture of his spin out, but it is a bit blurry. I was trying to shoot a couple of slow-shutter speed action photos when Briscoe began to spin toward the wall right in front of me. About the time he got close, I figured it was time to duck for cover. Pieces of his car shattered and flew all around, and luckily I avoided all of that.
